How to start a balcony garden

How to start a balcony garden
  1. Measure the daily sunlight first. Fruiting vegetables usually need plenty of light; leafy greens and herbs are easier in partial shade.
  2. Choose containers with drainage holes and enough depth. Use potting mix rather than dense garden soil.
  3. Start small with lettuce, chives, parsley or radishes. Water based on soil moisture, avoiding waterlogging.
  4. Check the weight of wet planters and follow building rules.
